General expectations I have for my students.

Introduction to Pathways

This course is designed to support students as they transition from middle school to high school. Teacher collaboration allows for the development of materials, activities, and events to support the successful completion of year one of high school. This course also helps ninth-grade students make an informed decision as to which pathway they plan to take during their high school experience. 

Web Design

Graphic Design is a course that explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design; as well as, the design process, from idea development through the final execution of a document. Professionals use the concepts explored in this course in the following disciplines: advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography and game design, and many others. 

Introduction to Agriculture

By introducing aspects, education and issues of the agriculture industry as a freshman in high school, this allows students to be more well-informed consumers in the future. The purpose of this class is to expose students to the six AFNR pathways as well as clinical and leadership skills

Leadership Friday

Not every Friday, but many Fridays, we do leadership, related activities in my classroom. Since we are an affiliated chapter, we can do FFA and SAE-related activities!

Class Expectations

Some specifications of what I expect out of students in my classroom.

Accounting

The purpose of the course is to expand the student's basic knowledge of record-keeping into a business-oriented bookkeeping system of accounting.  Using the basic accounting equation, the concepts and procedures needed to record the changes in business assets, liabilities, and capital will be explored in detail.  Upon completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills in accounting.

Sales and Marketing

This course provides a basic foundation for further study in marketing. It emphasizes the relationship of professional sales skills and marketing management techniques to successful profit and non-profit organizations as part of their overall marketing plan.  We focus on the challenges of the sales communication process, both face-to-face and online, along with the distribution of products and services, including pricing, promotion, and buyer motivation. 

Plant Science

Plants are a large part of the economic structure in South Dakota - from crop and forage production to horticulture and forestry. The purpose of this class is to develop student's knowledge, skills, habits and attitudes to plants grown in and near South Dakota. 

Introduction to Business

This course is designed to introduce students to the study of a business that centers around economics, business goals, management, and risk. Students will also gain valuable skills in business communication practices while developing a foundation for career & technical and business education courses.

Personal Finance Management

This course is designed to help you, the consumer, to become an intelligent decision-maker in a global economy.  Students will learn how to manage their personal money.  Topics include taxes, insurance, banking services, earnings, and deductions, establishing and using credit, money management, savings and investment, and understanding cultural diversity in our global economy.  This class will utilize guest speakers during the semester speaking on various topics of discussion.  Students will also complete a personal budgeting simulation.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship will teach the skills and approaches to successfully evaluate and create new business opportunities. Emphasis is placed on projects and activity-based learning. Students will engage in team-building and collaborative activities, with the intent of increasing career readiness. Students will explore the complex tasks, expectations, and restrictions of individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activities. Students will progress through different methods for developing business ideas, the processes of starting a business, the acquisition of resources, and the key components of a business plan.

8th Grade Computers & Design

Each 8th-grade student spends 4.5 weeks with the different CTE teachers in the spring to learn more about each career pathway offered in Windom and which one(s) interest them.
